[The plagues are predictable, but Elena loses track of them at some point. It doesn't help that they all start to blur together, and it's hard to keep track of the order. If she had been more aware, she might have known this was coming before it actually hits her.

Even the illness itself sneaks up on her - a cough here, a sniffle there. It isn't until one particularly bad coughing jag comes back with blood in her palm that she realizes what's happening.]

Uh-oh.

[Nathan's having the same problem with everything blurring together. he also been trying to ignore the fact that Elena seems a little sick, as of late, because obviously, she can't get sick, what with the last plague only applying to firstborn sons, as far as he remembers. she should be fine, right? right??]

[anyway, he's leaning over his notebook, at the moment, trying to remember which order the plagues went in and how to stop them, though he looks up when Elena starts coughing. excuse him, as his heart jumps into his throat despite his best efforts]

Uh-oh? What uh-oh?

[She grimaces, before turning to face her, holding up her hand. Elena gives him an apologetic look, because she really didn't intend to cause him problems, and yet.]

Guess they're just going for general firstborn children.

[And she's feeling a little woozy so she's going to stumble a bit, reaching for the nearest piece of furniture to stop her fall.]

Whoa.

[Nathan darts forward to catch her, to steady her. once he's managed, he starts to guide her towards the bed, the worry evident behind his eyes]

Okay, well. Just maybe sit down for a minute?

[like that's going to help]

[Yeah. Sitting down. That's a good plan.

She shifts to settle on the couch, and the spins begin to resolve themselves. She should just stay still for a while.]

Have you heard of anyone else getting sick?

[he hovers over her for a long minute, frowning. when it seems she's not in danger of immediately passing out, he settles down next to her, slowly]

A couple of guys, but.

[but he's not sure how they're doing, at the moment. but they were guys and that didn't surprise him. but they're not Elena and he really doesn't care about them, right now. but]

[She shifts to let her head rest against his shoulder on instinct, trying to get comfortable, even if she probably shouldn't. But Nate isn't a first born, so he should be fine, right?]

Have any of them got better?

Well, I mean, no one's really been sick long enough to tell ....

[no. no, they haven't. from what he's heard, people are dying of this crap. he's more than happy to try and dance around that, however]

[Her head is too fuzzy to catch the dodge in that particular comment, so she'll let him dance. She doesn't really want to think about it anyway.]

Hopefully, I'll get over it fast.

Hopefully.

[God, please. never mind the fact that 'God' is probably the wrong person to be invoking, right now]

But, uh. Do you want me to go try and find you something to drink? Or ... ?

[there's something about drowning a cold and starving a fever or something, right? maybe it's the other way around? who knows. either way, he's willing to wait on her, hand and foot, until this passes]

[this better pass]

[She makes a face because food does not sound good right now. She probably should eat, but her stomach is tied in knots for the moment.

She should still hydrate though.]

Water would be good. And maybe a blanket.

[She's starting to feel the chills from the fever coming on.]

Let's start with the blanket.

[mostly because that's something he can do immediately. the water situation -- well, he's going to have to go looking. he knows that]

[that in mind, then, he gets up and grabs a blanket off the bed, bringing it back to her. he waves it at her, then drapes it over her shoulders with a flourish]

Good?

[he can get her another, if she's not]

[She nods, bundling herself into a blanket burrito and seeing if she can work herself into a horizontal position. She pulls the blanket up to her chin.]

Yeah, it's good.

[It will be kicked off onto the floor later, but for now it works.]

[Nathan dances around her, mother henning, helping to tuck her in. when she looks settled, he hesitates for a moment, before glancing towards the door. when he looks back to her, it's almost apologetically]

I'm gonna -- I need to run down to the kitchen.

[because the water in the room is Not Good, like everything else. there has to be somewhere that has fresh water, though, right?]

Okay. I'll be here.

[It's not like she can move very much. In fact, a nap seems kinda nice right now. She'll snooze, you go find the water. Deal.]

Okay.

[man, he really doesn't like leaving her, like this. he continues to hesitate for another several seconds, before moving to grab her phone from where ever it is in the room. he brings it back to her, setting it down on a nearby table]

Just, uh. Shoot me a text or whatever, if you need anything else while I'm gone?

[or, you know, if she feels like she's going to die]

[She makes no promises about if she feels like she's going to die, because she might be too busy dying. But she 100% will text any random fever thoughts between now and then.

She shoots him a thumbs up from her blanket bundle.]

Got it.

Okay.

[he's repeating himself. he's hesitating again, not entirely comfortable with leaving her. still, though, he's going to have to sooner or later, because if the fever lingers, she's going to need to stay hydrated]

[he just has to hope this ends before too long, that someone finds a cure]

Okay. I'll be back as soon as I can.

[and then he's going to force himself to turn and leave]

[And she is going to pass out for a while. At least until she wakes up in pain and manages to stumble to the bathroom to do some puking.

Being sick sucks. So much.]
