The library. I'm at the back.

lucifer bringing them back wouldn't change what happened.
but, she is out of the loop, especially with her more mercurial friends. she has been very daughter-focused. friend-focused. she thinks she's been guarding a powerful dark object. she's been taking care of those in different tents, passing out waters, and generally being a caretaker.
the ship is something completely different. it's almost as absurd as the spanish inquisition.
it's hard being in hell. keeping track of everyone you've met, care about, worry about, and try to get in touch with? well, that's always been a full time job, too. so some people slip through the cracks. she doesn't hate the ship. she splits her time equally helping do any good deeds or any cleaning up and enjoying herself. daughter time always takes precedence but they lived without her here for months, so her daughters also get space.
she'd meant to reach out, to message, something.
she'd hoped she'd run into nathan. this just isn't what she was anticipating. it's a sight she's seen before, just not from him. nathan dangerously close to the railing, empty bottles surrounding him. she frowns, stopping a few feet away. )
You should be careful, lost souls tend to claw their way up.
( and sad or not, drunk or not, quiet and as radio silent or not, nathan does not deserve to go overboard. )
I was going to ask where you've been, ( she was going to be cute and flirty and add 'stranger' on the end, but instead. she sighs. ) Nathan.

[lost souls tend to claw their way up. they already have, in a manner of speaking -- he's a little lost, and has been, since he died. since he came back. he knew, going in, that that was a risk, a likelihood, but he thought he'd get lucky. he'd thought he'd never see it coming, if he didn't. he'd thought it wouldn't hurt, that it would be okay, that he would be okay, and while he doesn't quite regret it -- well, he's not okay. he's not okay, he's a little drunk, yes, and as much as he wishes it would, all the alcohol in the world isn't fixing his laundry list of problems]
[damn it]
[sighing, he turns to face her, still draped over the railing, though now backwards, propped up on his elbows]
Sorry. I didn't mean to ...
[worry her? was she worried? was anyone? he died alone]
no subject
You didn't. Do anything to me. Now, though. I am, Nate.
( how can she not be? )
Can you tell me what happened?

Elena and I found an herb that grows in Mystic Falls, one we need.

Are you planning on stealing the herb? Or ... ?
[he wants to know what she has in mind, before he tells her anything, so he can decide what's relevant -- or how to help, if they plan on breaking in somewhere. he's a thief, after all]

What've you got?
no subject
You really shouldn't be.
[Because it had sucked on so many levels.]
Picked up a handful of books. One about Asmodeus, one about some creepy ocean asshole, and a couple involving theoretical physics of the Hell variety.
[He's assuming Nate will be most interested in the first two.]

He glances over at Nate as he comes into the bar.]
What do you need?
no subject
To sit down for a few minutes.
[he's been running since everything went to Hell in earnest, no pun intended, and he's just -- tired. and hungry, to be honest, but the exhaustion is the big thing, at the moment. can he just take a nap on the bar, please?]
no subject
Then sit. We have time.

Even the illness itself sneaks up on her - a cough here, a sniffle there. It isn't until one particularly bad coughing jag comes back with blood in her palm that she realizes what's happening.]
Uh-oh.

[anyway, he's leaning over his notebook, at the moment, trying to remember which order the plagues went in and how to stop them, though he looks up when Elena starts coughing. excuse him, as his heart jumps into his throat despite his best efforts]
Uh-oh? What uh-oh?
no subject
Guess they're just going for general firstborn children.

[he'd been trying to ignore that fact, trying to pretend like he just hadn't seen him, with everything going on, but -- yeah. yeah, he's noticed that James is gone. he can only imagine how she feels. he doesn't have to, for all that it's bothering him, too, for all that James was the closest thing to having Sam here as he feels like he'll ever get]
Yeah, just -- you wanna grab a drink or something?
[now that the alcohol at the bar seems drinkable again]

At least he missed out on the fun, right? [ She aims for lightness, but it doesn't quite read in her voice. ]

It has been years now since Hell has been redone and made even greater than ever before. And you, my prized guest, have made it twelve months in your journey towards redemption. I know that there have been bumps along the way and we haven't always seen eye to eye, but I do wish to show my gratitude. Together, we will all leave Hell one day.
I have handpicked gifts specifically for you to commemorate this anniversary. I do hope you enjoy them.
Again, I thank you for all of your help in making Hell what it is today.
Yours,
Lucifer

Damn, she does like that, just a little.

Hey. Wanna go rock climbing?

[you'll have to forgive your husband his reaction, Elena -- he was still mostly asleep, when she started with the nudging. give him a few seconds, and maybe his brain will catch up with the rest of him]
